Refrigerated Skincare
Hello Beautiful!
Okay, so you’re seeing lots of new products on the market that promise tighter skin when refrigerated and all these mini skincare fridges. Well, I’m here to help! Let’s learn about refrigerated beauty together and discuss some products that might work well for you.
What is Refrigerated Skincare?
Glad you asked! Refrigerated Skincare is just a little term I use to group together all the products that can benefit your skin more when they’re kept cool, like in a refrigerator for instance.
Skincare products that have been cooled can benefit you by constricting blood vessels, creating a firmer, tighter appearance. For example, you could reduce under eye-bags and puffiness in the morning with a chilled eye cream or tighten your skin with a chilled facial mask.
What Products are Best for Me?
Let’s chat about different products that have hidden benefits revealed once chilled. Eye creams and serums, face mists like setting sprays or rose water, jade and crystal rollers, vitamin C creams, toners, sheet masks, or aloe gel can all have great effects on your skin once chilled. They feel great and do great things for your glow.
Eye creams and serums. Chilled eye creams and serums are your new best friend in the morning. By simply refrigerating these products, you can tell puffy and tired eyes to begone! It’s certainly a wake-up call to put cold cream under your eyes first thing in the morning.
Facial masks. Sheet and clay masks that are chilled still hold the benefits they promise on the bottle, but they also now can calm inflammation and redness.
Facial mists. Facial mists like setting spray or rose water are lightweight and hold tons of benefits once chilled. Just stow in the fridge and spray away for soothed skin.
Vitamin C. This magical vitamin boosts radiance like no other and is different from all the aforementioned products because it must be stored in the fridge to ensure long life and all the benefits promised on the bottle.
Jade and crystal rollers. Awaken your skin and your circulation by chilling your facial rollers and stones. Sculpt and define your features with a chilled tool. Unsure if facial tools like jade rollers are right for you? Read my blog about jade rollers and their benefits here.
I hope this helps to break down why everyone is putting their skincare products in the fridge. Some who are really passionate about skincare have even bought a little fridge, specifically to store their skincare products. You don’t need to go that far, but I bet you’ll be re-evaluating your storage situation after reading this.

Tana Marie
What is Microblading?
Okay, so you’ve heard about it on social media and read about it in beauty magazines, but what is microblading? If you keep reading, I will explain microblading and walk you through the whole process. You’ll even get to see some amazing results!
Microblading Explained
Microblading is a permanent cosmetic tattoo technique done with a sterile, manual pen that deposits pigment to the surface layer of the dermis, using a stroking technique. This offers a realistic and dimensional, natural-looking brow that mimics real brow hairs.
The Process
The way to get the best results is to first come in for a consultation with me. We can discuss the best brow shape for your face. When choosing a color, I look at the undertone and overtone of your skin. After I have determined if you’re a good candidate for microblading, we can then schedule both of your appointments 4 weeks apart.
When you come in for your first appointment, I will clean the brow area and prepare it for treatment. Next, I will draw, measure, and re-measure the perfect brow to fit your face shape. This process takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. After that, you will lay under an LED light panel to facilitate the healing.
Four weeks later, I get to see your beautiful face again. At this appointment, I will perform the same process over again, think of it as painting your nails. That first coat is there, but semi-transparent, this second session will seal them and will make all the difference. It is a mandatory session.
Care Afterwards
After your last session, there are a few things you can do to keep your brows beautiful and healthy. The best product you can use on your brows after the microblading process is sunscreen. Of course, this is after they’ve healed. Just like any tattoo, a little SPF 30 can help extend the life of your brows and prevent fading.
Do not use any makeup on the area for at least 9 days, don’t get them wet, sweat and keep them dry! You’ll go home with detailed instructions, along with soap and salve. Following the guidelines of your aftercare is critical to the success of your brows. Once the skin around your brows has healed, you can go back to your normal skincare and makeup routine. You’ll want to be mindful of keeping any Retinols, AHA and BHA’s away from your brows too, as these products can fade them as well.
Results

The Benefits of Waxing
Summer is coming and quarantine is lifting, which means trips to the beach, or a walk to the backyard pool and this means it’s swimsuit season. Swimsuit season means shaving your legs, underarms, and bikini area much more often, but what if I told you there was a way to stay smoother longer?
There is! I offer waxing services at my salon and I would love to share with you the many benefits of waxing.
You will notice slower hair growth. Instead of shaving off the exposed hair, we’re pulling the hair from its root. This way, your skin will remain smooth for a longer period of time because it will take your hair longer to grow back than as if it was just cut shorter. The waxing process lasts three to four weeks; much longer than if you were to shave.
Hair that grows back will be finer. Waxing removes the hair from the follicle and doing so regularly will weaken the hair follicle over time. Now your hair follicles will produce finer, sparser hair.
Waxing exfoliates your skin. Waxing strips off the top layer of dead skin cells, so in addition to making your skin smooth, it will brighten it too. It’s important to keep in mind that exfoliating before and after your waxing appointment is crucial to avoiding ingrown hairs. Read more about exfoliating naturally with DIY Sugar Scrubs.
Say goodbye to razor burn. You will also say goodbye to itchiness and prickly hairs.
No more cuts. That’s right! You don’t have to worry about accidentally cutting yourself on those hard to reach places.
Personal attention from me. I use a gentle and clean technique that gives you the personal attention you deserve to get your desired, smooth, glowing skin.

DIY Sugar Scrubs
Skincare doesn’t stop at your decollete. In fact, your skin is the largest organ on your body and while it’s nice to do a DIY face mask every once in a while, it’s important to exfoliate your entire body and one of the best ways to do that is a sugar scrub.
Sugar scrubs can be a wonderful and relaxing addition to your shower routine, but good ones can get expensive at the beauty store. That’s why I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite scented sugar scrubs and how to make them yourself with ingredients you probably have in your cupboard!
Oatmeal Brown Sugar Scrub
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup olive oil
¼ cup rolled oats, finely ground
Directions: First, grind the oatmeal in your blender or food processor until it’s a fine powder. Next, combine the ground oatmeal, brown sugar, and olive oil in a bowl. Stir well. Store in a mason jar or airtight container. This way, the scrub will keep for about 3 months, but let’s be honest, it’s going to smell so yummy that you’re going to use it every time you shower.
Cucumber Mint Sugar Scrub
¼ cucumber, unpeeled (about 4 slices)
¾ cup granulated white sugar
2 tbsp coconut oil, softened
8-10 drops peppermint essential oil
Directions: Puree the cucumber until soft and skin is in tiny flecks throughout. Mix in the sugar and coconut oil. Blend until oil is absorbed. Next, stir in peppermint oil and store it in an airtight container. Because this scrub contains fresh cucumber, it’s best to store in the fridge and transfer a scoop to a small bowl when you plan to use it.
Vanilla Orange Sugar Scrub
¾ cup granulated white sugar
2 tbsp coconut oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
5-7 drops orange essential oil
Directions: First mix the sugar and coconut oil in a bowl. Add in the orange essential oil and vanilla extract. Continue to mix and blend until the sugar scrub is the desired consistency. Store in a mason jar or airtight container.
Foaming Sugar & Coffee Scrub
¾ cup granulated white sugar
2 tbsp your favorite body wash
1 tbsp ground coffee
Directions: Measure and mix the sugar and body wash together. The mixture should be thick, but if it’s not, add more sugar. Mix in coffee grounds. Store in an airtight container or mason jar.
How to Use
You can use your fresh sugar scrubs however you want, but the best way to use them is in the shower on wet skin. This sugar scrub should be one of the last steps in your shower routine as you want to allow the warm water to soften your skin before exfoliating. Using the small amount of sugar scrub in your palm, gently massage into your arms, legs, torso, shoulders, back, feet, and hands. Rinse off with warm water and reveal your beautifully cleansed, silky smooth skin. Yay!
I hope you enjoy these recipes and if you try them, tag me on Facebook or Instagram. I love seeing your beautiful faces!

Skinfood: Foods That Are Great For Your Skin
Did you know that what you eat affects your skin too? In fact, according to an article written by Healthline about the effect, fast food has on your body, “Carb-rich foods lead to blood sugar spikes, and these sudden jumps in blood sugar levels may trigger acne.” Obviously I would never tell you to cut out carbs, or how to eat in general, but sometimes food is the one thing we don’t think about when we question why we’re breaking out. Let's talk about foods that are great for your skin.
While there are lots of different ways to prevent acne and new skin developments, eating some healthy foods is one big change you can make to your skincare routine.
Healthy Skinfoods
Water
Did you know that drinking water is one of the best things you can do for your body and for your skin? It helps your skin hold it’s shape, stay hydrated, and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It flushes out toxins and allows your body to take in necessary nutrients.
Berries
Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries are all packed with antioxidants, which are important to slowing and preventing damage to your skin.
Carrots
These orange babies are packed with Vitamin A which prevents dry skin, dark spots, and wrinkles. You can add carrots to your salad, drink carrot juice, season them and toss them in the oven as a side with dinner or eat them raw with your favorite dip.
Citrus
Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and limes are full of Vitamin C, which protects your skin from the sun and can help undo the damage it has caused. This will help firm up your skin. If citrus fruits aren’t your thing, don’t worry, you can also get Vitamin C from red bell peppers, papayas, kiwis, broccoli, greens, and brussels sprouts.
Spinach
More vitamins, yay! Eating spinach, which is also full of antioxidants, brings some Vitamin E into your life. Vitamin E is another way to reverse sun damage and inflammation. If spinach isn’t your fave, other leafy greens give you the same benefits.
Nuts
Walnuts, to be exact, are full of omega-3s, good fats that help your skin maintain it’s natural oil barrier that helps protect it from dryness and blemishes. These healthy fats will make your skin smoother and keep it looking younger, which is all we really want, right?
Olive Oil
Here come those healthy fats again to our rescue! Incorporating some olive oil into your diet will have your skin looking clear and supple. Visit my Pinterest page for some delicious dinner ideas about incorporating olive oil into your recipes.
Green Tea
This wonderful elixir in a cup is amazing for your skin. It helps to stop inflammation and slow damage. It’s in so many skincare products, so you know it’s a good choice for your skin.
Taking care of your skin doesn’t stop at the cleansers, creams, and serums you use in the morning and at night. It’s about what you eat and drink too, so let’s make a commitment to ourselves to drink some water and eat some skinfood every day. Challenge accepted!

Skincare With a Beard: We've Got You Covered
Hello Handsome! Yes, I changed up my greeting for you. I know women aren’t the only ones who are curious about the best skincare routines, so I’m writing a message especially for you. Let’s talk about skincare with a beard.
You’ve worked hard for your beard, you groom it every day to make it perfect, but why should you sacrifice great skin for great facial hair? You shouldn’t and you don’t have to. With the right skincare routine, you can make sure you have clear, bright skin and a great beard.
Wash yourself: That’s right, washing your face twice a day is the only way to secure a clear complexion. This step is important because you don’t want oil and bacteria your face collects throughout the day to sit in your pores overnight. You can use any men’s facial wash for this step. What about my beard? I haven’t forgotten about that. You can use any gentle/natural men’s shampoo for this step. Men’s facial wash works too, but shampoo will cleanse and moisturize at the same time, just as it does for your scalp.
Exfoli-what?: Exfoliating means scrubbing dead skin cells away. Exfoliation is an extra boost to clearing out impurities from your pores, so try to do this 2-3 times per week. You can use any men’s facial scrub for this step. Remember, it’s important to get your t-zone, your forehead down your nose because it’s the most-oily section of your face. Scrub a quarter-sized amount into your beard, ensuring you get the scrub under your facial hair.
Hydrate, then hydrate again: Moisturizing your face with a men’s face lotion can keep your skin looking bright and full. You should moisturize twice a day and depending on your skin type, use the amount that works for you. It’s best to do this right after washing and exfoliating. To keep the skin under your beard moisturized, use a natural beard oil a few times per week. Luckily, your facial hair can protect the skin underneath from the elements that dry out your bare skin, so you don’t need to moisturize that as often, but remember 3-4 times per week to show it some love.
Use protection, from the sun: Using a little SPF15 or higher is the step most-often skipped, but it’s one of the most important steps. Not only does a little SPF protect your skin from the sun, but in doing so, you’re practicing a little preventative skincare because protecting your skin from the sun is going to keep you looking younger the older you get.
All eyes on you: Don’t forget about the skin under your eyes. No, it’s not part of your face that’s covered by your beard, but while we’re talking about skincare, let’s discuss some fine line prevention. Using an eye cream or serum will prevent your skin from aging faster and reduce fine lines and dark circles, brightening your face.
Your beard looks fantastic, but if your skin could use a little improvement, remember these five easy steps because it’s going to change the way you see yourself. Your skin is the largest organ and takes up 16% of your total body, so treat it well and remember when you’re grooming your beard for the day, that your skin needs some love too.

Tana Marie
Jade Rollers: What Are They Good For?
Jade rollers are all over Instagram. These photogenic facial tools are somewhat of a myth to most, but they hold many useful benefits, besides being beautiful in pictures.
Your jade roller doesn’t have to collect dust on your vanity. Instead, use it to extract these benefits for your beautiful skin:
Use it to moisturize. Yep. You heard me right. If your face costs more than your outfit, you feel us here. So much of your skincare products get wasted on your hands and in your nails. Waste no more! Dot your product on your skin and use your jade roller to roll it into your skin for 20 seconds. Your skin will absorb the product and you can use less because your hands don’t absorb the majority of it.
Rid your body of toxins. Just like a good massage, massaging your face with a jade roller will drain the toxins from your body. Roll the jade roller across your cheeks, chin, and forehead. By doing this, you’re opening up pathways and improving lymphatic flow. This reduces puffiness and inflation, especially around your eyes. As you roll, apply light pressure and start on the décolleté and neck to open up pathways and create flow for effective drainage.
Soothe your skin. You can use the naturally cool crystal to soothe your skin. The cool jade roller can soothe rosacea and puffy eyes. The gentle pressure from the crystal will leave your facial muscles feeling more relaxed.
Destress after a long day (or night). Any massage is relaxing, but a facial massage is known to be a stress reliever. Making jade rolling a part of your daily ritual can relieve tension in your facial muscles and can count as your self-care for the day.
Know that you’re taking care of your skin, naturally. A jade facial roller is free from chemicals and additives, so if chemical-free is something important to you in your skincare routine, then jade rollers are the perfect addition to your skincare routine. Because most jade rollers are free of synthetic fragrances, dyes, sulfates, parabens, and mineral oil, it’s safe to use on any skin type.
Jade rollers hold a significant benefit to your skin and can help you feel more relaxed throughout the day. An added benefit of saving more of your skincare products to keep for your face and not your hands is one of the best parts! Below are a few different jade rollers that fit any type of budget and cater to any type of skin.
Herbivore Jade Facial Rollers. Their new Jade Rollers are crafted with improved hardware and higher quality ethically-mined stones to withstand the tests of time and use. The new Jade Rollers improve circulation and vitality, helping to freshen your complexion and luminosity. Each Jade Facial Roller will vary slightly in color and shape since each is made from genuine stone and each stone is unique | $30
Kaesthetics Studio Jade Roller. Jade roller includes a large rolling stone for larger areas of the face like forehead or cheeks and a smaller rolling stone for small areas of the face such as nose or eyes. Each product gets a hand-written note and each jade roller is handmade with naturally sourced jade from northeast China | $19
PURPLE WHALE 100% Natural Grade A Jade Roller. Invigorate, calm and awaken your skin with the help of this 1-Piece Grade A Jade Skin Roller Anti-aging Beauty Tool. A natural alternative to Botox, it helps keep your skin supple, reduce the look of wrinkles and restore a youthful appearance. This jade massage tool features double-ended rollers that allow you to cover both broad and fine-detail areas effectively. | $12
Jade rollers are an easy addition to your skincare routine and can greatly benefit your skin and your well-being. There’s never enough time in the day to invest in yourself, but with jade rollers, it’s easy and fast. I can’t wait to see what you think! Jade rollers will soon be available on my website, so keep an eye out.

Skincare After 30: It's Your Time to Glow
Hello Beautiful! So, you’ve turned 30 and you’re wondering what you can do to take care of your skin. Lucky for you, I have some easy tips for ensuring you keep your healthy glow long into your 40s. Let's talk about skincare after 30.
Thirty can be an exciting time in your life. You’re confident and empowered in your career, you might be slaying the mommy game or traveling the world, and you’re already doing great things for your skin by trusting me to help you along the way. Here are three ways your skin is going to change:
Your skin will need more hydration: Your skin will experience dryness like never before. In fact, “it takes longer for the top layer of the skin to slough off, giving a more dull and dry quality and production of hydrating factors in the skin such as hyaluronic acid slows down and break down increases,” according to Melissa Kanchanapoomi Levin, M.D., board-certified NYC dermatologist and clinical instructor at NYU Langone and Mount Sinai.
You might start to notice signs of aging: Fine lines, hyperpigmentation, larger pores, and duller-looking skin and usual suspects. Don’t let this scare you, because your 30s are prime years for preventative skincare practices.
You notice dark spots: Depending on how much time you spend out in the sun soaking up the Vitamin D, you might notice some dark spots. There’s also a possibility that scars from acne aren’t vanishing as fast as they used to. This is due to the hydrating factors in your skin slowing down.
So, now that you know how your skin is going to change, let’s get you into a new, preventative skincare routine. The best way to prevent adult acne, dark spots, aging, and dryness are through this routine:
Don’t be dirty: Remember to wash your face morning and night. Getting rid of dirt, oil, and makeup will prevent adult acne.
Hydration station: Moisturize right after you wash your face. Because you’re a smart cookie, you already know that soap can naturally dry out your skin, so moisturizing right after you wash should become a part of your regular routine. (BONUS: if your moisturizer also contains some SPF15 or higher, you can skip the next step)
Use protection: From the sun! It’s always important to use SPF15 or higher with your moisturizer, so mix them together for a quick routine.
Consider a serum: Serums are more concentrated moisturizers, so using that in addition to step 2 will ensure you don’t have to worry about pesky dry skin.
Treat yo’ eyes: Adding an eye cream to your routine will stop those fine lines in their tracks. It will also help with dark circles and puffiness.
In the words of the great Benjamin Franklin, “You may delay, but time will not, and lost time is never found again,” so girl, get on that routine. You’ll thank yourself tomorrow, for what you did today. And there’s no greater feeling than having pride in what you accomplished yourself.

What is Dry Brushing?
You must try Dry Brushing. Your skin will feel amazing and your body will thank you too! Here's how to do it.
Dry brushing the skin really is as simple as it sounds—a firm, bristled brush is swept across the skin, from toe to head. It's called "dry" brushing because you do it before you bathe or shower when your skin and the brush are completely dry.
There are so many good things that come from the regular practice of dry brushing. It’s wonderful for exfoliating dry skin and unclogging pores. It helps detoxify by increasing blood circulation and promotes lymph flow/drainage. Dry brushing also stimulates your nervous system, leaving you feeling invigorated.
Want to experience these benefits? Here are our favorite tips for getting the most out of dry brushing:
Pick the perfect brush. We actually have two favorites that we use: a handleless natural bristle brush for our arms and legs and torso (it comes with a hand strap for an easy grip) and a long-handled natural bristle brush for the back and backs of the thighs and other hard to reach spots. You can find brushes in the bath and beauty section of your favorite store. I like Target! Designate your brushes for dry brushing your skin only. You can rinse and dry your brushes after each use.
Brush towards your heart. When you dry brush, use long, sweeping strokes in the direction of your heart to work with your body's lymph flow. The lymphatic system, found just under the skin, helps to rid your body of toxins and waste. We NEED this! So, start from your toes and make sweeping motions up your legs, and tummy, finally releasing the brushing as you near your heart, where a key lymph drainage point is found. When you are brushing your arms, start at the wrists and brush up towards the shoulder, then down from the collarbone to end near your heart.
Follow up with an oil massage. Some people like to jump in the shower after dry brushing, but for a real treat to your skin, follow up dry brushing with a massage of warm coconut oil or sesame oil into the skin. You can warm the oil by placing the bottle in a sink of warm water or microwave for 10 seconds. Test to make sure it is warm to the touch, not hot. You can also warm oil quickly by rubbing it between your palms before applying.
Our skin is our largest and one of the most active organs in the body. Every minute old skin cells die and new ones are created. Brush your skin while standing on a dark towel and you will notice just how many flakes of old skin are removed! Dry brush your skin weekly for the best results. You can make this a weekly ritual, light a candle, turn down the lights and soak in a warm lavender bath. You'll be ready for the week ahead. Self-care feels so good!
Change the way you see yourself.

Roses are naturally high in vitamins, antioxidants, and healthy sugars, so the benefits of rose water can range from hydrating your skin to calming your hair’s frizzy attitude. Below are some of the most important benefits for your skin:
Anti-inflammatory: This is one of the greatest benefits of rose water. The anti-inflammatory properties can help soothe the irritation of eczema or rosacea.
Hydration: Well it is water but rose water can give your skin that extra boost of hydration in the morning. In addition, it can help reduce the oiliness of your skin.
Defrizz & Strengthen Hair: Just like rosewater can hydrate your skin, it can hydrate your hair the hydrocarbons in the water help keep hair strong, healthy, and hydrated.
Mood Booster: Yes girl. If you’re feeling down, spritz yourself with some rose water. Research has found links between mood stabilization and rose water. The extracts have light mood-enhancing benefits.
High in Vitamin C: This vitamin aids in blemish treatment, cell recovery, UV protection, skin hydration, and wrinkle prevention.
Anxious to start using rose water in your daily routine? Here’s how you can incorporate it:
Use it as an eye cleanser/soother
Add it to your body lotion
Add it to your conditioner
Makeup remover
Acne treatment, used with lemon juice, but be careful. A little bit of lemon juice goes a long way as it can sting acneic skin, so use sparingly and never apply to open lesions.
