How to Use Your Essential Oils

Hello Beautiful! Did you receive essential oils for Christmas this year, but are unsure of all the different uses for them? That’s where I can help! There are so many wonderful uses for your oils and I want to make sure you get the most out of them.

With a Diffuser

An essential oil diffuser allows you to dispense the oils into the air. There are many different types of diffusers and no type is better than the other. It depends on your budget and your preferences. You can find a couple of great options at Target

On your Skin

You can also use your oils to up your skincare game. Blend a few drops of your favorite scented oil with your daily body moisturizer, add to a carrier oil and apply or use your oils to massage and moisturize your feet or other highly stressed and impacted areas of your body.

Breathe Them In

Simply unscrew the top from your essential oil and inhale the fragrance. The scents can be inhaled for different purposes.

  • Peppermint & Eucalyptus: to help clear the sinuses

  • Lavender: to calm and soothe

  • Orange & Lemon: to energize

Use in the Shower or Bath

Add them to your bath, the corners of your shower, or your shower gels like shampoo, conditioner, or body wash. Depending on what you want out of your shower, you will use a different scent.

  • Peppermint & Eucalyptus: to help clear the sinuses

  • Lavender: to calm and soothe

  • Orange & Lemon: to energize

In Your Car

Energize yourself on your morning commute by adding a few drops of orange essential oil to a few cotton balls and storing them in your car overnight. Additionally, you can add a few drops of peppermint oil to cotton balls to keep in your car during the day. This will keep you awake and clear-minded on your way home.

There are so many different uses for your essential oils. They truly do have the power to improve your mood, relax you, and clear your mind. What you want to accomplish with your oils will depend on the method and the scent you choose. Below are some combinations I use:

  1. If I want to feel energized… I take my orange essential oil and mix it with my daily moisturizer. Massaging slowly into my skin, I think about my daily affirmations and BOOM! I’m energized. Just a drop or two will do.

  2. If I want to wind down… I draw myself a bath and add a few drops of lavender essential oil to the water along with a neutral bath bomb or epsom salt. What an amazing way to wind down at the end of my day.

  3. If I want to clear my mind… I will grab my diffuser and add a few drops of peppermint essential oil to it. I will turn on my favorite headspace meditation and take a few moments for myself.

I hope this Part 2 guide to essential oils helped you decide how you want to use yours. I enjoy essential oils so much, I made my own collection, so if you haven’t grabbed a set for yourself yet, now is a great time because they’re on sale.

GET MY ESSENTIAL OIL SET!

XOXO,

Tana Marie

Keep Skincare Simple

Hello Beautiful! Are you exhausted from all these articles, posts, and videos telling you that you NEED to add this or that as part of your skincare routine? Me too, so what is actually necessary for your skincare routine? Let’s go over what you need based on your skin type.

Normal Skin

If your skin is never too dry or too oily, with a regular texture, you have a normal skin type. For your skin type, here’s what you need:

  • Daily cleanser: I have a couple of great options on my website for you.

  • Daily moisturizer: The Quench moisturizer on my website is perfect for your skin.

  • Occasional facial: Because everyone needs an occasional facial. Book yours here.

Sensitive Skin

If your skin is sensitive, it is more prone to react to different stimuli. Your skin is fragile and could react in different ways (ie. redness, tightness, heat, or itching). For your skin type, here’s what you need:

  • Daily cleanser (sensitive): For your skin, I would recommend the Cleanse product.

  • Daily moisturizer (sensitive): This is the perfect, light-weight moisturizer for you.

  • SPF: Sensitive skin like yours needs extra protection. Here’s a great option.

  • Gentle Serum: Aptly named, this serum will calm your sensitive skin.

  • Occasional facial: Because everyone needs an occasional facial. Book yours here.

Dry Skin

Dry skin is typically a temporary skin type that can be caused by cold weather, low air humidity, and immersion in hot water. For dry skin, I typically recommend you use:

  • Daily Cleanser (sensitive): For your skin, I would recommend the Cleanse product.

  • Daily Moisturizer: This is what you need lots of. Here is the moisturizer for you.

  • Facial Oil: This restorative oil will help repair your dry skin flooding it with moisture.

  • Repair Serum: This facial serum will repair and rescue your dry skin.

  • Eye Cream: The first places you should make sure stay hydrated are the areas around your eyes. You can use this cream to lock in moisture.

  • Occasional facial: Because everyone needs an occasional facial. Book yours here.

Oily Skin

Oily skin has a porous, humid, and bright appearance. The cause is excessive fat production by sebaceous glands in the skin. Here’s what will be best for you:

  • Daily cleanser: For your skin, I recommend our Purify cleanser.

  • Daily moisturizer (sensitive): This is the perfect, light-weight moisturizer for you.

  • Clarify Serum: This serum works to normalize oil production to create a clear complexion.

  • Occasional facial: Because everyone needs an occasional facial. Book yours here.

Skincare doesn’t have to be complicated, in fact, it shouldn’t be. Let’s simplify in 2021!

XOXO,

Tana Marie

The Importance of Self Care

Hello Beautiful! Whew! 2020 has been a year and now more than ever we need to talk about the importance of self-care.

What is Self-Care?

Self-care encompasses everything you do for your mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Sounds simple right? Not exactly, because many of us forget to do this in at least some way, once a day. This is why we have to talk about it because once you recognize the little things you can do for yourself every day to improve your overall well-being.

How Can I Practice Self-Care?

It can be little things like not checking your emails at night, when you know it affects your sleep and leads you down different thought paths. Something a little bigger? Draw yourself a bath after a long day, sit in it for as long as you like, and relax. Even bigger? Book yourself a facial with me ;) Self-care can be anything you do to make yourself feel better each day.

Why is Self-Care Important?

Self-Care encourages you to allow yourself to relax and take time for yourself. If you feel good, others feel good around you, but you cannot give to others what you do not give to yourself. Self-care is NOT selfish. It’s considering your needs and prioritizing your well-being. When you do this, you give yourself energy and confidence to anything.

How Else Can I Practice Self-Care?

  1. Pay attention to your physical health: Whatever you do, make sure to move your body, because movement is medicine. Yoga, barre, and morning walks are some great ways to move and flow with your body.

  2. Get enough sleep: Don’t forget, you need to recharge at night too. Getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night will significantly improve your mood and energy.

  3. Eat foods that make you happy: If it doesn’t make you happy, then why not switch it out for something that does.

  4. Start each day with what you’re thankful for

  5. Learn to say “no” to things that don’t fulfill you

Self-care comes in many different forms and that’s why we need to talk about it. Whatever works for you, whatever matters to you, that’s what self-care is. If you want to chat more about self-care, let’s do it while you’re caring for yourself at the same time during an appointment with me ;) Book here!

XOXO,

Tana Marie

  1. Gentle Cleanser: This cleanser is perfect for all skin types. It’s gentle on the skin and something everyone needs! Stimulate the senses with a hint of peppermint while this luxurious, gel cleanser removes dirt, makeup, and environmental toxins. Cleanse flaunts natural kiwi and kumquat derivatives to purify the skin for a refreshed complexion.

This one actually refreshes the skin under your eyes! Intensely hydrating eye serum containing proven actives that increase collagen and elastin as well as firm and effectively reduce puffiness, lines, and dark circles.

For the One Who is Thinking About Changing up Their Look

  1. Microblading: This is the perfect way to help your loved one change up their look. Microblading is a permanent cosmetic tattoo technique done with a sterile, manual pen that deposits pigment to the surface layer of the dermis, using a stroking technique. This offers a realistic and dimensional, natural looking brow that mimics real brow hairs.

  2. Collagen Induction Therapy: Also known as Micro-needling. Restore youth by effectively tightening, lifting and thickening the skin. This treatment will aid in trans-dermal delivery of therapeutic serums, rejuvenate and improve skin tone and texture, improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. A serum and oil are sent home with clients to further aid the healing process. This treatment will deliver visible results that are safe, virtually painless with little to no downtime.

  3. Sunless Tanners: What a good way to give a glow to someone while the sun is away! Famous Dave’s Small Batch Reserve Sunless Tanner. This tanner is my favorite because it doesn’t streak, layers on evenly, and lasts 10-14 days.

For the One Who Doesn’t Like Skincare

Gasp! Just kidding, we don’t judge! We have the perfect gift for them too.

  1. Essential Oils: These are great for multiple reasons, but so many of these oils can help you relax. Not to mention, they’re on sale for 25% off right now! Most foot exfoliant products can leave your feet dry and raw, but not Baby Foot. Our product features 16 natural extracts that are scientifically formulated to exfoliate and moisturize at the same time creating a luxurious experience like you’ve never had before. It also includes a small amount of salicylic acid to soften your feet and induce peeling.

For the One Who is Particular

We all have that person who is very particular and harder to buy for. That shouldn’t stop you from pampering them ;)

  1. Gift Cards: Give me a call and we can set one up for you or you can purchase, print, email, or give from this link. Everyone deserves some pampering this holiday season.

I hope this Holiday Gift Guide helped you pick out some gems for your friends, family, and co-workers.

This, not That

Hello Beautiful! I’ve been hearing about a lot of different fad skincare products that influencers and celebrities just rave about that aren’t the best for your skin. Because of this, I am starting a segment called this, not that. You wouldn’t feed your body food that is not good for you, so why would you feed your skin products that don’t help it?

  1. Facial Wipes: These are great for the girl on the go, but they don’t give you the best cleanse. Used daily, makeup remover wipes can create friction and tear your skin. They also contain a lot of alcohol and preservatives that are not good for sensitive skin.

    1. Instead, Use A gentle facial cleanser that will actually clear out your pores. I have some great options.

  2. Biore Pore Strips: These strips can also cause tears in your skin or further irritate already sensitive skin.

    1. Instead, Use A gentle, deep-cleansing toner. Here is my favorite toner: Face Reality’s Calming Facial Toner with beautiful hints of rose, perfect for dry/normal skin types, or Sal C-Toner, great for oily/acneic skin types. Book here.

  3. Peel-Off Mask: These popular peel-off masks may help remove dirt and buildup from your pores, they also remove precious skin cells and even vellus hair, leaving skin raw and ready for irritation. Charcoal cannot identify between the good and bad cells, so it removes them all.

    1. Instead, Use Come see me ;) Instead of a store-bought peel-off mask, we can talk about some DIY options and give you a results-oriented facial while we’re at it. Book your appointment here

There are so many fads out there that claim to be great for your skin but do not give you the benefits they promise. If you are ever questioning a product or want to talk about what’s right for your skin, send me a message on Facebook. Let’s chat it out :)

XOXO,

Tana Marie

What is Retinol?

Hello Beautiful! I’ve gotten a few questions about this topic and I’m here to help you understand what retinol is, how to use it, and the benefits it gives you.

Retinol

Retinol is a type of retinoid that works to increase collagen production as well as increases the rate of skin cell turnover. They help treat acne, blackheads, and clogged pores by reducing the cells that clog pores. They also speed up the rate at which skin cells regenerate.

These wonderful benefits improve your skin’s overall texture by minimizing fine lines and wrinkles, evening out skin tone, and decreasing pore size.

Options

When it comes to retinol, I have an abundance of options for you, all with different benefits.

  • Calm: our most gentle Vitamin A Serum designed to rejuvenate deep into the skin - $78

  • Correct: one of the most powerful, non-inflammatory rejuvenation serums available - $86

  • Renew: Spoil your skin with the most advanced, age-reversing formula available - $96

  • Clarify: Blemish-prone skin has met its match with this powerful vitamin A serum - $60

How to Use

The best part about retinol is that it works on all skin types and should be used as a daily step in your skincare routine.

  • Step 1: Stick with a gentle cleanser. I have a few options for you linked here

  • Step 2: Apply your retinol serum

  • Step 3: Always follow your retinol with a moisturizer, especially those with hyaluronic acid and ceramides. If you have sensitive skin, you should add your moisturizer before your retinol.

    • If this is your first time using retinol, I recommend easing it into your routine by applying once a week and working up to every other or every night, depending on how your skin reacts.

  • Step 4: Don’t forget your SPF daytime of course!

If you’re curious about how to layer other products in your skincare routine, I can help! Visit this blog: “How to Layer Skincare Products.”

Benefits

  1. Anti-aging: Retinol prevents wrinkles due to its minimizing effect. It also works to smooth out existing fine lines and wrinkles because it helps your skin produce collagen, elasticity, and encourages cell regeneration.

  2. Brightens: Retinol brightens dull skin by exfoliating at a cellular level. The results are brighter, smoother skin.

  3. Decreases acne: Retinol can help regulate oily skin and minimize breakouts.

  4. Improves skin tone: Retinol can help fade dark age spots, sun spots, and is proven to improve hyperpigmentation. It evens out your complexion over time.

Side Effects

Before adding retinol to your skincare routine, it’s my responsibility as an aesthetician to let you know some of the side effects.

Because of its exfoliating powers, when not used in moderation, retinol can cause the skin to redden, peel, or dry out. That is why it is crucial you follow retinol up with a hydrating moisturizer. This may occur even if you do not have sensitive skin. You may experience these side effects when you first introduce retinol, but your skin should stabilize over time. This is why I recommend slowly adding it to your routine.

I’m so excited for you to experience the benefits retinol has to offer and I’m happy to answer any other questions you may have. Just book a consultation with me :)

XOXO,

Tana Marie

Let’s Talk About Wellness

Hello Beautiful! I wanted to write this blog about wellness because I think a lot of us could benefit from hearing some words of encouragement and tips for wellness at a time like this.

Since we’re entering cold and flu season on top of COVID-19, wellness should be at the top of everyone’s minds.

Ways to Boost your Energy

Sleep

Some of us are working from home where our office is 12 steps away from our beds and some of us are working long hours as an essential worker. Either way, getting a good night’s sleep is essential to your success throughout the day. When you get less sleep, you feel less energized and you’re less likely to be productive.

Okay, I know this seems like kind of an obvious way to boost your mood and energy, but I’m going to give you a few tips to get enough sleep at night:

  • Power down. Turning off or plugging in and putting away your devices one hour before bedtime will ensure you can get to sleep faster. If you must be looking at your screen, wearing blue light filtering glasses will help with the effects the blue light has on your ability to sleep.

  • Snacks. You’ve probably heard “you’re not supposed to eat past 8 pm.” Well, that’s not entirely true. As long as you don’t snack 1.5-2 hours before going to bed, you will fall asleep faster and easier because your body can focus on falling asleep instead of digesting.

  • Workouts. Trying yoga 2-3 times per week can be extremely restorative and will move your body enough to get the exercise it needs. Doing too many intensive workouts won’t provide your body with the restoration it needs and believe it or not, won’t help you sleep easier.

Food

A healthy diet can improve your mood and your focus throughout the day. It also has an impact on your sleep schedule. For instance, cutting yourself off from coffee around 2 pm will ensure you can fall asleep on time and stay asleep.

Drinking plenty of water throughout the day will keep you and your skin hydrated. You should also be nourishing your body with foods filled with protein, fat, and fiber. Here are a couple of my favorite recipes:

Mediterranean Orzo Salad

  • Prep: 15 minutes

  • Cook: 2 hours

  • Total: 2 hours and fifteen minutes

  • Serves: 8-10 servings

  • Ingredients:

    • 12 ounces cherry tomatoes, halved

    • 2 tablespoons olive oil

    • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

    • ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder

    • ⅛ teaspoon salt

    • 1 package grain-free orzo

    • 1 English cucumber, diced

    • 1 yellow bell pepper, diced

    • ¼ red onion, diced

    • ½ cup pitted & halved kalamata olives

    • ¼ cup capers

    • 13 ounces chickpeas, drained & rinsed

    • 4 ounces feta cheese, crumbled

    • ¼ cup fresh dill, chopped

    • 3 tablespoons fresh mint, chopped

    • 3 tablespoons olive oil

    • Juice of 1 lemon

    • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Instructions:

    • Preheat the oven to 200 degrees F. Place all cherry tomatoes on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet cut side up. Whisk together olive oil, maple syrup, garlic powder, and salt. Use a basting brush to brush each cherry tomato with liquid. Place in the oven to bake for 2 hours.

    • When the tomatoes have 30 minutes left to cook, bring a large pot of water with a pinch of salt to boil. Once boiling, add the grain-free orzo pasta. Cook for 13-15 minutes, mixing every couple minutes to keep from sticking. Once done cooking, drain and rinse with cold water. Set aside.

    • Dice up cucumber, bell pepper, and red onion. Add to bowl along with kalamata olive, capers, chickpeas, feta, dill, and mint. Then add the olive oil and lemon juice. Toss to mix.

    • Once the tomatoes are done cooking, let cool for a couple of minutes. Once cool to touch, add to the bowl along with salt and pepper. Mix to combine then taste to see if you need extra salt and pepper. Serve cold and enjoy thoroughly!

Candied Walnut Pear Salad (This is truly one of my favorites!)

  • Prep: 10 minutes

  • Cook: 1 hour

  • Total: 1 hour 10 minutes

  • Serves: 3-4 servings

  • Ingredients:

    • For the honey balsamic vinaigrette

      • ½ cup olive oil

      • ⅓ cup balsamic vinegar or red wine vinegar

      • 2 tablespoons honey

      • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard

      • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

      • Pinch of salt

      • Pinch of black pepper

    • For the salad

      • ½ pound bacon

      • 5 ounces spring mix greens

      • ¼ red onion, thinly sliced

      • 2 pears, thinly sliced

      • 1 tablespoon hemp hearts

      • Salt and pepper

    • For the candied walnuts

      • ¼ cup maple sugar

      • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

      • Pinch of salt

      • 1 egg white

      • 1 teaspoon water

      • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

      • 1 ½ cup walnut halves

  • Instructions:

    • Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    • Whisk together ¼ cup maple sugars, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl.

    • In a large bowl, whisk together egg white, water, and vanilla extract until egg whites become frothy. Add walnuts to the bowl and toss until coated. Then add sugar mixture to the large bowl.

    • Place on a baking sheet in a single layer. Put in the oven for 35 minutes, tossing every 5-10 minutes to help cook evenly on all sides.

    • Once the nuts are done cooking, remove from oven, sprinkle with the last of the sugar, toss, then let cool completely on baking sheet

    • While walnuts cool, place all ingredients for the vinaigrette in a small blender and blend until smooth. You can also just simply add this to a jar and shake to combine.

    • Lastly, place bacon in a large nonstick pan over medium heat and cook bacon on both sides until crispy. Remove and set aside on a paper towel to soak up any excess fat, then break up into small pieces.

    • Now all you need to do is build your salad! Add greens to a bowl, then the pears, bacon, candied walnuts, hemp hearts, and salt and pepper. Then add dressing and toss before serving. Enjoy!

Supplements

You can take some supplements to improve your mood and your energy. A few that replace the benefits of coffee. A few are schisandra berry and rhodiola. This blend of Chinese herbs increases circulation and nourishes the body, which gives you a morning burst of energy without the caffeine crash.

CBD is also great for calming any coffee jitters. Adding it to your daily coffee gives you extra focus and productivity throughout the day. Contact me if you’d like to order a high quality CBD Oil.

I hope these tips help you boost your energy throughout the day and keep you in top wellness during the cold and flu season.

XOXO,

Tana Marie

Clay in Skincare

Hello Beautiful! Do you remember how good your skin feels when you put on a mud or clay mask and relax for the evening? There’s a reason for that. Clay is one of the most powerful, yet underrated skincare products out there and I’m going to tell you why.

Clay has been recognized to promote healing and is heavily used in the cosmetics industry. Using clay regularly can benefit your skin for both therapeutic and medicinal purposes. Let’s talk about it!

How Clay is Formed

Clay is a soft, loose, earthy material containing small particles. Weathering and erosion of rocks are what forms clay over time. Rocks containing the mineral group feldspar get broken down by water and wind and when they settle, they form clay.

A mineral is a naturally occurring crystalline material that has a specific or limited range of chemical compositions, but clay minerals have a sheet-like structure.

Types of Clay

  • Bentonite clay: This type of clay comes from volcanic ash that has been combined with water. It is a gray or gray/cream color that draws out toxins and has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties. Referred to as the “healing clay,” it is absorbent and great for oily skin.

  • Kaolin clay: This clay gets its name from the mineral kaolinite, which is found in tropical rainforest areas. This is a fine-grained clay and ranges in color from white, pink, or green depending on the minerals found in it. The clay yields benefits for dry to normal skin. It can enhance the tone and clarity of your skin.

  • Green clay: This type of clay is composed of decomposed plants and iron oxides and because of its stronger absorption, it’s perfect for oily skins. The anti-aging properties of this clay come from its great absorbability.

  • Zeolite clay: This clay is formed from volcanic rocks that react with alkaline. It is a good treatment for oily skin.

  • Dead sea clay: You probably see this type of clay a lot in different mud masks. It is a fine-textured clay that is known for its healing properties. It’s also mixed with many different types of clays to become even more powerful.

The minerals found in these clays can pull out toxins and reduce impurities in your skin. Clays will replenish the hydration in your skin. You can incorporate clay into your skincare routine by using a mud or clay mask 1-3 times per week.

Using clay as part of your skincare routine will improve your skin’s texture, tone, and hydration. Schedule a consultation with me if you would like to talk more about products that are better for your skin.

Tana Marie

Plant-Based Skincare

Hello Beautiful! I’m sure you’ve seen this trend pop up in your Instagram feed, but I wanted to give you some more in-depth knowledge on the topic. Below, we will discuss what plant-based skincare is, what kinds of products are useful, and how you can incorporate them into your skincare routine.

What is Plant-Based Skincare?

Plant-based skincare includes products that are naturally full of essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that support luscious hair, glowing skin, and stronger nails. Plant-based skincare products are only made from plant ingredients, such as fruits, vegetables, herbs, seeds, whole grains, legumes, and nuts.

Plant-based skincare products are a growing trend this year because they’re ultra-gentle and have a reputation for being less toxic with many nourishing benefits. Not only do they offer benefits to your hair, skin, and nails, but they have many environmental benefits as well.

Benefits of Plant-Based Skincare

  • They’re better for your skin. Many beauty products on the market today claim to have great benefits for your skin when in reality, you can’t even pronounce most of the ingredients on the label. Plant-based skincare is easy to read, understand, and guarantees benefits.

  • They’re more earth-friendly. Many of our drug-store products make their way into rivers and streams that have been linked with the detriment of many eco-systems. When you use natural plant-based products, you are ensuring that your body is protected and the earth is too.

  • They’re healthier overall for your skin. Your skin is the largest organ on your body and we certainly put it through a lot. As you know, your skin soaks products in like a sponge. Why wouldn’t you want your skin soaking in more natural, ethically-sourced ingredients?

Plant-Based Skincare Products

  • Biossance. Toxin-free skincare with naturally-derived products. Even the packaging is eco-friendly. Prices range from $10-72 and you can incorporate these products into your everyday skincare routine. From cleansers to serums, Biossance has enough plant-based skincare products to overtake your entire routine.

  • Tana Marie Skincare. Yep! We carry plant-based, natural products too. Our newest addition is our 2020 Collection of essential oils. This six-pack of oils provides many benefits you can read about here. Shop Now!

  • bioClarity. An all-natural, toxin-free, paraben-free, and sulfate-free skincare brand with eco-friendly packaging. This brand is vegan and cruelty-free with a price range from $20-70. This brand also helps control blemishes, tone, and texture. Incorporate it into any part of your skincare routine.

Plant-based skincare is no longer a foreign term. It’s something we can all learn from and begin to use in our routines. I hope you enjoyed learning about it as I have.

XOXO,

Tana Marie

What is a Nano-Infusion Facial?

Hello Beautiful! With the dry fall and winter months coming up, I just have to recommend my nano-infusion facial. Let’s dive in and chat about what it is!

My Nano-Infusion Facial Experience

This treatment includes a double cleanse, dermaplaning, a light enzyme peel, a facial massage, and nano infusion with a complex blend of rejuvenating oils that awaken your skin cells. Your skin will drink up this amazing elixir, showing off a beautiful, youthful glow! This is a great treatment for dry skin.

What is a Nano-Infusion Facial?

Nano infusion refers to an intensive transdermal delivery of active ingredients to effectively treat esthetic skin conditions. It can be used as an adjunct treatment to microdermabrasion, peels, or LED light treatment. It is an alternative to microneedling (sometimes). This treatment is not microneedling, but it is 100% safe, non-invasive and only enters the top layer of the skin. There is little to no downtime, yet extremely effective.

The handheld device uses many pyramid-like nano heads. Each head is smaller than a human hair made of crystalline silicon, which is flexible, unlike the metal needles. When they touch the skin, peptides can be infused in the skin.

The result is that skin cells are separated and re-arranged to allow nutrition to pass through the skin barrier to provide 1000% more absorption to feed the skin.

Nano infusion is clinically proven to improve:

  • Refining skin texture

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Tighten skin

  • Can be used just above the eye and over the lip

  • Peptides or stem cells can be infused into the skin

This treatment should be booked monthly to improve the skin’s texture and hydration. Book your nano-infusion facial here

I can’t wait to see you!

XOXO,

Tana Marie

My Signature Facelift Peel

Hello Beautiful! The Signature Facelift Peel is one of my most beneficial peels, so I thought I would highlight those benefits for you. Keep reading to learn more.

Description

Our signature results-driven treatment combines vitamin C, hydroxy acids, and enzymes to speed up cellular renewal. The new technology of centella stem cells supports redness prone skin and botanical detoxifying and energizing complexes give noticeable results in just one session.

Skin Type

The signature facelift peel is for redness or dry/dehydrated skin.

Benefits

Vitamin C and fruit enzymes blended in aloe vera base with anti-inflammatory botanicals to reduce redness. Hyaluronic acid adds moisture to dry/dehydrated skin. Gently exfoliates while infusing the skin with potent antioxidants.

The signature facelift peel combines enzymes with hydroxy acids and is gentle yet effective. Last month, I wrote an article about the benefits of enzyme peels. Let’s chat about how beneficial enzyme peels are combined with Alpha Hydroxy acids.

The Myth

One of the best things about my signature facelift peel is that your skin doesn’t actually peel. By its very nature, a peel will make your skin peel, but that doesn’t always have to be the case to achieve glowy moisturized skin. Here’s how it happens: the hydroxy acid dissolves the top layer of the dermis, removing thousands of skin cells at a time. Once the peel is removed, so are the dead skin cells, thus eliminating the peeling of your skin.

If you would like to read more benefits about hydroxy acid peels, this article from Allure explains with in-depth research.

Ingredients

Organic aloe vera gel base, Vitamin C Fruit enzyme blend Hyaluronic acid, Centella stems GX™ (centella asiatica stems), Botanica blend - coffee and peppermint, Essential oil blend eucalyptus and ylang ylang, Luminescine, Seashine (undaria pinnatifida extract), Bearberry, Licorice, Mulberry, Mallow extract, Alchemilla vulgaris (lady’s mantle), Arnica montana, Camelia Sinesis (green tea), Comfrey, Blackberry

If you’re convinced that this is the peel for you, let’s book an appointment to give you gorgeous skin.

XOXO,

Tana Marie

What are Enzyme Peels?

Hello Beautiful! You’ve heard about them, you might even have experienced them, but you’re still curious either what it is or the benefits of an enzyme peel. Allow me to explain. We will also chat about the fun advantages of enzyme peels over chemical peels.

Enzymes, a Quick Summary

Have you ever eaten pineapple and felt a little tingle on your tongue? Those would be enzymes and believe it or not, we can use them in facials to attain amazing results.

Enzymes are naturally derived active ingredients found in many fruits. Pomegranate, Pumpkin, Papaya, Pineapple, and Figs are a few examples. They act fast to dissolve dead skin to reveal smoother, healthier skin. They’re potent, but non-abrasive exfoliants for all skin types.

Enzyme peels exfoliate your skin by removing dead skin cells. Other benefits include anti-aging, clear skin, minimized pores, and clearing acne scars.

Enzyme Peel vs. Chemical Peel

While both types of peels yield benefits for your gorgeous skin, there are certain skin types that would benefit more from an enzyme peel.

  1. Sensitive or easily-irritated skin. Like I said before, enzyme peels work hard to exfoliate your skin and remove dead skin cells much like chemical peels. The wonderful difference is that enzyme peels, because of their nature, won’t irritate your skin like chemical peels sometimes can. The purpose of a peel is to exfoliate and prepare your skin to soak in the necessary moisture it needs to be glowy and soft. Enzyme peels do just that, and they’re all-natural.

  2. Pregnant or breastfeeding women. When you’re pregnant, you would do anything to protect your baby and there are so many things to be vigilant of. One way you can protect your skin and your baby is to opt for an enzyme peel instead. Always be sure to speak with your doctor first.

  3. Those with weaker immunity. Anyone who has a history of a weak immune system or recently discovered their immune system is compromised should receive an enzyme peel because the natural products in the peel do not contain harmful ingredients. Always be sure to speak with your doctor first.

An Enzyme Peel is the Peel for Me

Fabulous! Allow me to suggest one of my most famous and effective enzyme peels, the Organic Ormedic Lift Peel. It’s a gentle peel that is good for all skin types to gently exfoliate your skin.

Description

A blend of pumpkin, pineapple, papaya, and mango fruit enzymes and peptides in an organic aloe vera gel base. This non-chemical peel rebalances, regenerates and restores skin while comfrey plant-derived stem cell technology recharges your skin’s stem cells helping to maintain youthfulness.

Skin Type

Unbalanced, irritated, sensitive, and dull-looking skin.

Benefits

Organic aloe vera is the delivery system with a pumpkin pulp exfoliator. Polypeptides provide maximum rejuvenation and hyaluronic acid adds moisture.

Ingredients

Organic aloe vera gel base, Pumpkin pulp, Passion fruit Papaya Pineapple Polypeptides, PhytoCellTec™ Symphytum - comfrey (Symphytum) roots, Botanical blend - coffee and peppermint, Essential oil blend eucalyptus and ylang-ylang, Luminescine, Seashine (undaria pinnatifida extract), Bearberry, Licorice, Mulberry. How to Layer Skincare Products

Hello Beautiful! I want to take a moment to recognize you. My, this year has been strange, but you have overcome the strangeness. Whether you have picked up a new hobby, invested in yourself in some way, or done some self-reflection, you have done something for yourself.

That being said, I have seen a lot of you “skinvest” in yourself and come to see me. I’ve received  a lot of questions as many of you begin or dive deeper into your skincare journey. One of those questions that is most frequently asked is “how should I be layering my skincare products?”

I’m here to help! Let’s chat about the different products I recommend you have in your morning and nightly skincare routines (yes, there’s more than one) and how you should layer them.

The Layers

  1. Start with your water-based products first like, toners, serums, and facial sprays like rose water. Why? Because they create a nice, even foundation for which to layer your moisturizer.

    1. Pro Tip: If you have a serum that is thicker than average, then you should layer it after your toner and before your moisturizer.

  2. Hydrate baby! Next comes the moisturizer. The base you laid in step one makes your skin soak in the moisture even more effectively.

  3. Protect. SPF is the last step (and one you should never skip). We layer SPF on last to prevent it from being diluted by the other products in your routine.

  4. Make it up. If you like to wear makeup as I do, this is the last step. A facial mist like a setting spray is okay to use as the last step in your makeup routine.

Morning

Good mornings always start with cleansing your face ;)

  1. Cleanser

  2. Toners, serums,(from thinnest to thickest) and facial mist

  3. Moisturizer

  4. SPF

  5. Make-up

Night

A good night’s sleep always begins with a clean face (sense a pattern here?)

  1. Make-up wipes/ remover

  2. Cleanser

  3. Toner, serums, mists

  4. Moisturizer

  5. Blemish creams

My goal is to create a fantastic skincare journey for you all and part of that is knowing how to effectively use those products you spend so much time researching and so much money on. This blog is a place for you to reference whenever you’re unsure. Whether it’s learning about how to layer your products or about at-home facials, I’ve got you covered.

Have a question or want to know about a different topic? Send me a Facebook message and you’ll see it next month.

Tana Marie

Dermaplaning vs. Shaving

Over the years that I have been spreading the amazing benefits of dermaplaning, I have also heard some rumors about it and I’m here to put the rumor mill to rest: Dermaplaning is NOT shaving. Let’s chat about it.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a safe and simple, non-invasive method to exfoliate the skin, removing all dead skin cells and ridding the face of vellus hair (peach fuzz)

Tana Marie Skincare Bonus! This service comes with a customized mask or a leave-on exfoliator depending on your skin type and/or need.

Shaving

Here’s what Google says: “Shaving is the removal of hair, by using a razor or any other kind of bladed implement, to slice it down—to the level of the skin or otherwise”

The Difference

What’s the difference? I’m glad you asked because there are two very distinct differences between dermaplaning and shaving.

  1. With dermaplaning, you get a more consistent exfoliation. It fully removes the top layer of dead skin cells to reveal glowy, bright skin. It also removes the peach fuzz we all have, giving you a smoother and fresher complexion. Doesn’t a razor do the same thing? No. Because shaving is all about the “removal of hair,” that’s what your regular razor is designed to do. Your razor’s mission is to get as close to the skin as possible, cutting down the hairs to give you smooth skin. You’ll notice the difference when you book an appointment. The dermaplaning tool will not only remove the skin cells and peach fuzz, but it will exfoliate your skin.

  2. The dermaplaning tool is much gentler than a razor. I use a single edge #10 scalpel blade to skim the surface of your skin to exfoliate. With a regular shaving razor, there are multiple, slanted blades that are often much duller (even fresh out of the packaging) than my scalpel.

The differences are noticeable after you have visited me, so go ahead, experience it for yourself. After getting a dermaplaning treatment, many of my clients boast about how glowy and fresh their skin looks and feels.

It’s an incredible add-on to any facial or skincare treatment that will have you not only seeing results but feeling them too (for weeks). I can’t wait to see you for your next appointment ;)

Tana Marie

How to Take Care of Your Skin in the Summer

Hello Beautiful! It’s already a month into the summer and we’re coming out of quarantine, so I thought I would put together a quick guide on the best ways to take care of your skin during the summertime.

Summertime Skin Tips

  1. Exfoliate your body. I put together a blog on DIY sugar scrubs which you can use to do this. Exfoliating is great for your glow. Get rid of dead skin cells once a week for glowy skin.

  2. Use your SPF! Don’t forget your SPF 30 wherever you go. Add an extra 3 seconds to your morning skincare routine. It’s so easy ;)

  3. Consider a natural look. Makeup can clog pores and using less makeup in your daily look can help your skin breathe.

  4. Water is a must. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day is a must. Remember to drink at least once every 30 minutes to rid your body of toxins and combat dehydration.

  5. Moisturize your skin. Hydrate your body with your favorite summer scented lotion after exfoliation to get that summer glow.

  6. Refresh your skin with a toner. Using a good toner can help you clean out clogged pores. The t-zone of your face has the largest concentration of clogged pores, so focus on that.

  7. Invest in a Vitamin C Serum. Vitamin C is great year-round, but it’s extremely important in the summer because it can help with collagen production. Layer a few drops on your skin between cleansing and moisturizer.

  8. Stay in the shade. Wear sun-protective clothing, wide-brim hats and sunglasses in the sun. You don’t always need to wear long-sleeve shirts, but protecting yourself from the sun is extremely important.

Your skin is important and knowing how to take care of it during different seasons is important too. I hope this guide to taking care of your skin in the summer is helpful and easy to follow. Enjoy!

XOXO,

Tana Marie

5 Skincare Myths Debunked

Hello Beautiful!

2020 sure has been a year for DIY projects, including skincare. With the rise of TikTok and it’s infamous 15-60 second skincare tutorials there has been some information left out. I’m here to help walk you through some of those skincare myths and give you the best advice to achieve the same great benefits, the correct way.

  1. I don’t need sunscreen… What? Of course you do! It doesn’t matter if it’s going to be sunny, cloudy, rainy, or snowy. You NEED your SPF. Make sure you use at least SPF 30. Lucky for you, I know where you can get some great moisturizer with SPF. Click here to shop.

  2. I’m too young to use eye serums and creams. You can never be too young to use eye serums and creams. The skin around your eyes is thin and delicate and it also sees the most makeup coverage which means more scrubbing, rubbing, and cleansing to get it clean. The first signs of aging come at different times for different people, but you can start giving the skin around your eyes some extra attention no matter how old you are. Click here to find an eye cream or serum that’s right for you!

  3. An exfoliant is an important step in my morning and nightly skincare routine. While consistent exfoliation is important for your skin, doing it nightly or every morning, every day can be harmful. When you exfoliate, you remove dead skin cells, and it can give you an amazing glow, but if you do it twice a day or even once a day, you can expose your skin to environmental toxins and the sun. Not to mention, your skin will be red and more sensitive. Exfoliate 2-3 times per week and only apply light pressure. That way, you won’t over-exfoliate.

  4. Coconut oil is a good facial moisturizer. No! Did you know that coconut oil actually clogs pores and can lead to pimples? When applied as a moisturizer, it acts like a plastic film, sitting on top of your skin and not allowing it to breathe. Bacteria and dead cells will stay in your pores longer and lead to clogged pores and breakouts. Ah, scary! It’s okay, just start using a real moisturizer instead. 5. My pores can open and close, get bigger and smaller. Your pores cannot open or close because they’re not controlled by muscles. Slight warmth can help bring oils out of clogged pores, but switching between extreme temperatures won’t open or close your pores. You can keep your pores clean and unclogged by regularly cleansing and moisturizing.
